The ministry began in August 2009 in Lakeland, Florida with God's call to raise up a new breed of intercessors. This ministry has been running in this call ever since. In 2017, (then newlyweds) Richard and Kimberly Wilson merged Watchmen Arise International, Ekklesia House International and Revival Outreach Center in Tampa Bay, Florida. In 2021, they relocated full-time to Moravian Falls, North Carolina.

He often speaks about the importance of prayer in his ministry, and has led numerous prayer initiatives around the world, including the Global Day of Prayer and the Jerusalem Prayer Breakfast. He also served as a founder and president of America’s National Prayer Committee, a diverse group of evangelical leaders instrumental in planning America’s annual National Day of Prayer. He also is president of the National Day of Prayer Task Force.
